Utility
Cut Restoration
General Asphalt Co
In April of this year, the Miami-Dade Water & Sewer
Dept. placed approximately 70 tons of EZ STREET Cold
Asphalt in a utility cut 100 feet x 36 feet. The EZ STREET
material replaced an existing, failing, conventional
(temporary) cold mix.
Application
Utility cut restoration. Broken water main on SW 211th
St., Miami, Florida USA. Failing conventional cold asphalt
was excavated completely, sub-base recompacted, EZ STREET
was placed with a motor grader in two, 1½ – 2
inch lifts and then compacted with a steel wheel roller,
patch was immediately reopened to traffic after installation.
Test
Initial observations after installation of the EZ
STREET Cold Asphalt showed no signs of: pushing, rutting,
shoving, raveling or bleeding. Subsequent visits to
the site have not revealed any degradation of the patch.
Field
EZ STREET Cold Asphalt is performing in its intended
function as a full depth utility restoration. Standard
protocol would have called for temporary, conventional
cold asphalt to be placed after the water main repair.
At a future date the temporary cold asphalt would be
excavated and replaced with hot asphalt. This method
is very costly and requires maintenance of the temporary
patch before the hot asphalt is placed. EZ STREET Cold
Asphalt can be placed with the same crew and left as
a permanent repair. Please direct all questions or comments
